Diane M. Jacey, a longtime educator and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024. Originally from Staten Island, she dedicated 30 years of her life to teaching at PS 26 before relocating to Manchester, N.J., over two decades ago. Diane leaves behind fond memories and will forever be remembered by her brothers Charles and sister-in-law Arlene Jacey, her cousins Mary Reilly, Marita and Thomas Coakley, Joan Sherry, and Kenneth Gamgee, as well as her nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Jacey. Active in her church and community, Diance was a member of the Toms River Presbyterian Church, the Educators Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Kimball Medical Center. Carol Kerr, a beloved educator and lifelong resident of Staten Island, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her devoted family. After graduating from Cedar Crest College, she dedicated herself to teaching, spending many years as a beloved kindergarten teacher at PS 48, Targee Street, until her retirement in 1991. Throughout her teaching career, Carol pursued her passion for learning, earning a Master’s Degree at Wagner College and continuing her education. In retirement, Carol enjoyed traveling with the YMCA to destinations like Ireland and Disney World. She also engaged in community work, participating in the senior Olympics and cherishing the companionship of friends at the local senior center. Known for her love of animals, children, and vibrant spirit, Carol embraced every moment. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred W. Kerr, and more recently her son, Fred Kerr, Carol is survived by her children David, Scott, Pamela, and her husband Tim, and grandsons Tim and Patrick Murphy. Supported by her aide Lucy and therapist Max, Carol leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, warmly remembered by her extended family. For the full obituary, click here.

Francis X. Silvestri, a proud retiree from the “Bored” of Education, as he jokingly called it, passed away at the age of 80. Francis was a dedicated educator and member of the United Federation of Teachers, he was also known as the unofficial president of The Albert Shanker Fan Club. His academic journey began with a strong foundation in languages including classical Greek and Latin, which he cultivated during his education at Xavier High School and Georgetown University. He earned his master’s degree in Biology at Hunter College and entered the NYC public school system, teaching at Tottenville High School and Sarah J. Hale. He later became an attendance teacher, finding fulfillment at Susan Wagner High School and McKee Tech. Even in retirement, he mentored students at Kingsborough Community College and Borough of Manhattan Community college. Beyond his professional life, he cared for his wife, Patricia, during her illness and found solace in his Catholic faith. Francis cherished moments spent watching his grandsons play baseball at Snug Harbor Little League in Livingston. Survived by his daughter and grandchildren, his legacy lives on through his dedication to education, family, and faith. For the full obituary, click here.

Richard J. Mayronne, a decorated veteran of both the Army and the USMC, and a distinguished retired inspector of the NYPD, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at his Staten Island home surrounded by his devoted family. He was a cherished husband to Veronica, a loving father to eight children, and a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren. Alongside his family, he is survived by his sister Barbara, and his childhood friend of 80 years, Paul Geiger. Richard was a dedicated scholar, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration, Police Science, and Criminal Justice from St. John’s University, NYIT, and John Jay College. He also shared his knowledge by teaching Criminal Justice at Ocean County College. In retirement he found solace in watching his favorite team, the NY Yankees play, never missing a game. However, his true happiness came from spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
