Fixins Soul Kitchen is a casual eatery that offers a menu filled with classic comfort foods. Their selection includes popular dishes like fried chicken, gumbo, and grits. At Fixins, you can indulge in delectable options such as Chicken & Waffles, Biscuits & Gravy, or a Smothered Pork Chop.

I have been here a couple times and every time I have came in has been wonderful. The food, service, and vibe of this place makes it stand out and leaves you wanting to come back for more. The fried green tomatoes are a MUST try! I could literally eat a few orders of those and just be happy. Their fried chicken is one of the best in town and does not disappoint!

Food was okay. Considering as I walked down the street and the aroma was wonderful. I guess I don’t care for brine. The food looks pretty and smells good. Not sure if sugar was in the greens or vinegar. Macaroni and cheese was okay. I was disappointed there were no peaches in the peach cobbler. I’ll give them a couple more tries because I want to try smothered chicken and oxtails. Hopefully I’ll enjoy…

We went here for lunch for the first time.Parking: We found a parking space right away in front of the restaurantService: Professional and friendly, they were attentive and checked up on us multiple times.Food: Presentation was nice. We had fried deviled eggs for appetizers, which was delicious. For mains we had the smothered chicken with collard greens, charred okra and the fried catfish with fries, mac and cheese. The gravy was a little spicy which was a hit for some of us and miss for others. The breading on the fish and chicken was heavier than I prefer. The fries were crispy, the mac and cheese good. The greens were good in flavor and were more exciting to me than the meat. The okra was a little undercooked but i liked it anyway. Chicken and fish were still juicy. What was a bummer was that everything was way too salty (especially the breading of the catfish) for our taste, so that we couldn't really enjoy the flavors or finish. Banana pudding was tasty, nothing crazy.Overall ok. Since a friend recommended the place we would like to give other dishes a try, since this place seems to be well loved.

Loved the atmosphere. There were so many people there. It was a little loud but nothing too crazy. It was a 45-minute wait when we got there. Thank God I had made reservations 🙌🏾🙌🏾. I let them know we had reservations, and within minutes we were sitting at our table. It took about 10 minutes for our server to take our order due to the crowd. They were moving as fast as they could. My sever looked a little annoyed. I figured that the establishment was a bit understaffed, so i didn't hold it against her. I ordered their shrimp and grits and a side of greens and cornbread. I also had a shot of their Hennessy with a side of cranberry juice 😋 The greens and cornbread were really good. The grits were spicy (not too spicy) and also good. The only thing I didn't like about the grits were the bell peppers and tomatoes (it was in every bite. Too much for me). I didn't know it came like that. In the future, I'll make sure to ask them to leave those out. The yams were also overcooked. My A1 got the smothered chicken with yams and mac and cheese. Her daughter got fries. All in all, it was a feel-good experience. I thought the food could have been better given the price though.

We were just passing through Sacramento and decided to stop by Fixins and we were not disappointed. The fried chicken was simply amazing but the one that was a hit at our table was the unassuming charred okra. We also loved the shrimp and grits. Will definitely be back if I’m around Sacramento again.

Such a cute spot.I was craving for some soul food and oxtail!Glad I found this place! The oxtail was so tender, juicy, and delicious filled with the right amount of flavor! It literally melts in your mouth. The rice that was under the oxtail went so well with all the flavor. The side of orka was to die for! It has a hint of sour and spicy that makes your mouth watery and you will find yourself reaching for more! The sweet tea was on point! The corn bread was moist and sweet!!!However, the gumbo was kinda disappointing...It was plain.Overall, parking is not hard to find and the space and vibe is beautiful. We did outdoor seating. The staff were very tentative and make sure we had everything we needed.Superb customer service! And lastly, love love love the music they were playing!

First time dining here. It was so delicious and flavorful, the service was amazing and I just love the Mason jar concept as well as the Kool Aid availability. The oxtails were nice and tender, Catfish bites were perfectly seasoned. Mac and cheese so good and the greens and candy yams very satisfying. I was not disappointed in the food we ordered. A must return to try more options. Please, if you are in area or even not in the area, stop by and enjoy a good meal.

I tried the oxtail from here. It was pull-apart tender and delicious. I also enjoyed all the sides we got. The Okra was so flavorful with the bacon. The Swiss chard was tender but not mushy. Potato salad was delicious. The fried chicken was also great and juicy. The biscuit that came with the dish was buttery and delicious, and I enjoyed it with the blueberry whipped butter. Service was nice and everything was delicious but food took a long time to come out. The waitress was sure to check up on us though so I appreciated that. One of the best places for soul food in the area! So good!

Recently, I visited the Fixins Soul Kitchen restaurant located in Sacramento, CA, and had a very nice experience. I got to meet the owners of the restaurant as they are very friendly and make it a point to interact with their customers and ensure that they are enjoying the food and atmosphere. The overall feel of the restaurant was inviting and laid back. As far as the food; I tried the Fried Chicken Salad, which was very good. I really wanted to try the Gumbo, but it was too hot out that day, 105 degrees hot🥵.According to the Co-owner, the company is growing and looking to expand to other cities and states in the near future. I am hopeful that they make it to the St. Louis, MO area.If I make it back to Sacramento, I will definitely try the Gumbo next time.

Rolled around lunch time and got seated right away outside. Drinks were a great start to our meal. The catfish nuggets were sooooo good. The juiciest fish fried to perfection and NOT greasy!! I'd come back for this. We also had mac n' cheese, charred okra, greens, oxtail so juicy and falling off the bones, and fried chicken & waffle. It came with blueberry ish flavored butter - YUM! Service - awesome, food - amazing, ambiance - homey and chill. Will be coming back one day!

Dropped in for some happy hour comfort food and had a great experience. The Mac and cheese balls were really good and the chicken sliders were very juicy and especially tasty. Also enjoyed deep fried deviled eggs for something completely different. All around a pleasant experience

My girl and I had Father’s Day brunch here. What a wonderful experience. The waitress was stellar the food was extraordinary matter of fact some of best I ever had. I had oxtails and rice with collard greens and cornbread, she had chicken and waffles. While dining they had very calming music playing soft in beautiful outdoor dining area. The manager visited all the tables and to make sure everyone was happy. Next time we return we will surely stop here. By the way we had red velvet cake that didn’t touch due to being extremely full. You guys are amazing !

Thank you to this restaurant for a great experience. First of all the environment was warm and family friendly. Next I ordered the chicken and waffles plate with Mac and cheese it was delivered hot and fresh. My chicken wings were very seasoned and the Mac and cheese was soft and hot. Thank you to Erica she was really sweet and I was at the bar alone and she spoke to me made me feel very comfortable I no longer felt alone after chatting to her. My waitress was sweet she checked on me frequently as well. Thanks again I came from the Central Valley and I will return again :)

I visited twice because the food was tasty and the vibe was on point. There were a few times when my waitress was a but preoccupied, so I didn't see her for a bit. But, the rest of my experience was great. The first day I ordered the chicken, macaroni, greens, with the biscuit. The waitress was nice enough to let me sample all the available Kool-Aids. The second day I ordered the catfish with fritters, macaroni, and black eyed peas. My favorite side was the macaroni. Even though the meats had a little more breading than I prefer, they were still yummy, nice and hot. If ever in the area, make sure you try it. Oh yeah, I was excited to see the Uncle Nearest glasses! And loved the rooster with the fro pic.

Food was awesome, service was great. Qife had the fried chicken with mac and cheese and potato salad, I had catfish red beans and rice with collard greens. Our appetizer was fried deviled eggs. Hever had that before but will definitely have again. Will surely be back and highly recommend.

The food was some of the best I've had in Sacramento. Deep fried deviled eggs👍, fried chicken, perfect, grits, amazing, spicy chicken sandwich, so good. The restaurant is clean and inviting, I'm assuming our server was having an off day. Waited 10 minutes before order was taken, waited another 10 for our drinks and appetizer. She seemed overwhelmed and not very friendly.

The best soul food outside the south. I am from Atlanta and Fixins had the best mac and cheese and best fried chicken. I also loved the fried green tomatoes, charred okra, and their gumbo. Peach cobbler finished out a perfect meal that took me back home! Attentive, friendly service too!

We went there on a very hot day, and we had our puppy with us. Not only did they quickly bring us food and menus as well as large mason jars of iced water, they also brought out a take-out bowl for our pup. 10/10 for service.Despite the heat, the atmosphere was nice. The outdoor patio dining area was clean and well-decorated.The food was excellent, with the sole exception I can't say that I was a fan of the Kool-Aid pickles... that said, they were a nice accent on the plate. The chicken was VERY well seasoned, and the breading was pleasantly crispy while not detracting from the juicy chicken in my sandwich. The flavor was balanced well and the portion was pleasantly filling. I am sensitive to chipotle sauce due to the smoke flavor, and they graciously put the sauces on the side, but after trying it, I re-introduced it to my sandwich, as it tasted great and was not overwhelming of the chicken or other flavors. The fries were perfect. I also very much enjoyed the fried deviled eggs, which I have never had before. Definitely visiting again next time I'm in the area!

The restaurant was a vibe! They played great music and it wasn’t too loud! The food though 🤤🤤🤤 i wanted to try so many things 🤣🤣🤣 I had the Deep Fried Deviled Eggs, the Fried Catfish with Collard Greens and Mac and Cheese, and the Red Velvet Cake. Everything i had was so good and literally tasted better than most of the soul food restaurants I’ve gone to in the south! I’m from the south by the way! It was definitely giving homemade!! The Red Velvet Cake was HUGE and the best red velvet cake I’ve ever had in a restaurant! I’ll definitely be back i want to try the shrimp and grits next time!

Definitely liked our experience at this particular location. We did, however make a reservations the day before to ensure that we were able to finally be able to enjoy a meal without having to wait longer than an hour or decide to go elsewhere. The atmosphere the vibes, the service everything was really good Didn’t have any complaints. Our advertisers were made very good. Our meals were good, the only advice that we have or suggestion was around the peach cobbler that we had. We felt that the peaches were not thoroughly cooked as though they were pretty crunchy when we received our dessert. Our drinks were also pretty good that were made at the bar. All in all, a good choice to have brunch or dinner at. We definitely do see ourselves visiting here again. Also, will look forward to the atmosphere during the summertime and maybe enjoying our meal outside on the outside seating area.

Great location, great service, great music, and most importantly great food. The fried chicken and waffles was excellent. The wife had the smothered chicken, collard greens, and mac n cheese. The drinks in mason jars was over the top. You would be an absolute fool not to eat here🍽🍻

My recent visit to Fixins Soul Kitchen in Sacramento marked my first foray into the world of soul food, and it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. The ambiance of the restaurant is both vibrant and welcoming, with a decor that thoughtfully blends cultural richness and modern touches. This creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for everything from casual meals to special celebrations.Despite a lengthy wait—which, in hindsight, only highlighted the restaurant’s popularity—the dining experience was well worth it. The food was the true star of the show. The fried chicken was nothing short of perfection, boasting a crispy exterior that gave way to a juicy and flavorful interior. The seasoning was expertly balanced, offering a savory and slightly spicy kick that kept my taste buds delighted. The accompanying fries were golden and crisp, seasoned to complement the chicken wonderfully. The mac and cheese was a revelation: creamy, rich, and topped with a delicious cheesy crust that added an extra layer of comfort to the dish.In addition to the fried chicken, I tried the black-eyed peas, which were rich and imbued with a subtle smokiness that paired beautifully with the chicken. The mac and cheese, once again, did not disappoint, maintaining its status as a standout side. The spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips was another highlight. The dip was creamy and packed with generous pieces of artichoke and spinach, making each bite hearty and satisfying. The chips were perfectly crisp, providing the ideal vessel for the dip.Service at Fixins Soul Kitchen was top-notch. The staff was not only friendly and attentive but also knowledgeable about the menu, which added to the overall positive experience. Our orders were taken promptly, and the food arrived hot and fresh, further enhancing the dining experience.Fixins Soul Kitchen successfully delivers on its promise of offering authentic soul food with a modern twist. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a lively atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination in Sacramento. Even though the wait was long, the experience was undeniably worth it, and I can confidently say that this dining experience deserves a solid five-star rating.

All around! It is a great spot to eat and socialize. Patio seating was nice. All the servers were very attentive and friendly. The food was presented great and tasted great. We will be going back to try other plates.

We drove from The Bay Area to buy a car and found this GEM. Fixins was exactly what I was looking for. The food was delicious, the drinks we good and the atmosphere was inviting. There were a mixed crowd of patrons all chatting and eating and having a great time. I would definitely drive back to get my FIX.

Hands down, one of the BEST pork chops I have EVER had! The meat was fried to perfection, so flavorful, and the gravy just made it exta yummy! The Gumbo was also very flavorful with just the right amount of spice. It is a very laid-back and relaxed atmosphere. Spacious, clean, with vibrant pictures hanging on the walls. The only one tiny downfall was that we never seen our waitress/waiter (original waitress went to break as we were looking over the menu) until the end of our meal when we got tired of waiting for our bill to arrive. It does get pretty busy and packed around noon. I can understand that they need to wait on many customers at once. But that will not prevent me from going back again!

This place is AMAZING! The food was superb, the service was outstanding. Good vibes, good ambiance. We had the fried chicken and waffles, the fried catfish, fried chicken. Sides of fried green tomatoes, Mac n cheese, red beans& rice, and corn bread. Got a side of their gravy to dip the fried chicken in. I went into a food coma after eating here, woke up, and began eating again. Nothing negative to say. Our server (Cat) was great. Very hospitable and welcoming. This place reminded me of the glory days in the Baldwin heights/Ladera area eating at M&M's soul food in the early 2000's. What a joy to eat here and is highly recommended.

One of my new favorite places in Sacramento! The place was lively and the service is wonderful. Ms Pearl who runs the place came over to my table and made me feel like I was their VIP customer. She was very sweet and hospitable. I got the gumbo and it was perfect! I'm from Mississippi and I've been to Louisiana a bunch and their gumbo was on point and maybe even better than what you'd typically get in the south! I highly recommend this place if you're in the oak park area, even if you're not in the area but you're looking for southern soul food, it's not too far from most places in the Sacramento area and worth the drive. Say hi to Ms Pearl for me!

Jayson T — Google review

I really liked this place, I'm from the south and this food was really good. I especially liked the Mac and cheese and fried deviled eggs. We also got the oxtails and they were good and tender, I also got the fried chicken, black eyed peas, collard greens, and yams. I got my son the chicken tenders with fries and that chocolate chip cookie was bomb. Everything was good 👍🏽😊 I enjoyed it very much.

I finally made my way to this establishment located in Oak Park. They have booths, tables, bar seating and a patio area to dine. Immediately when you walk in there’s a small waiting area and a servers station to seat you. The atmosphere is like an inside backyard family reunion. The music is nice and everybody is enjoying their company and food. Unfortunately, there was a 45 minute wait to be seated and bar seating was full so I ordered to go. I ordered Ruth’s Plate which is 3 sides. I also ordered banana pudding because well, it’s banana pudding. The three sides I ordered were Mac and cheese, candied yams, and grits with cheese. I really wish I had gotten the grits without cheese because I missed out on an opportunity to really enjoy them. I really wanted to dine in to try some of their whiskeys but there’s always next time. The banana pudding was delicious. Not too sweet. Just…delicious. It’s served in a to go drink cup, the bananas were a nice texture, and just dang delicious. The Mac and cheese was amazing. Cheesy goodness. The candied yams were fantastic as well. The grits, again, I should have gotten without cheese which I think goes without saying, but otherwise they were sooo gooooooood. Everything filled my tummy and made it warm and cozy. To park right in front, you’ll have to catch someone just coming out, otherwise you’ll have to park down the block which isn’t terrible. They have a few main entree vegetarian options, nothing amazing. If you’re getting a to go order I would definitely recommend getting a drink even if you think you don’t want it or need it because you will have a craving for something delicious to drink to wash down your delicious food! If you can and it’s available, call ahead or reserve a table to get the full experience!! Everybody was very nice and I only waited about 10 minutes for my order to be ready.

2nd time here. The food is so full of flavor and tastes incredible! The staff and everyone else are wonderful! The line to get in was out the door. So we are not the only ones who really enjoy coming here. This a wonderful restaurant! Also we have a few friends who will drive several hours to eat here.

My second visit and I had to leave a review because it simply doesn’t miss. Coming from a soul food cooking family, the food made me feel at home.

Jay B — Google review

Friend recommended this place and I have got to say it was AMAZING the entrees were reasonably priced and in my opinion huge. I really liked how you got to choose your sides (I do wish they just had plain corn with butter). The Mac and cheese and potato salad were great and delicious. Next time I visit I have to try to the desserts. Another thing I would like to mention is the service. AMAZING. I’ve never been treated to well at a food establishment ever. Shoutout to Auntie Pearl the story and history behind the place was very interesting. Overall amazing place to visit.
